Nasiphi Moyamoya Biography:Nasiphi Moya has promised to be a mayor for all residents in the capital city.
The 36-year-old ActionSA councillor became the fourth mayor in the metro in the past three years.Moya will be leading a multiparty coalition government that will include the African National Congress, Economic Freedom Fighters and other smaller parties.
Nasiphi Moyamoya Early Life
Nasiphi Moya was born and raised in Mpikwana, in the Eastern Cape.When she was 15, she moved to Cape Town.

It is in the Mother City where Moya went to high school then attended the University of Cape Town and later the University of the Western Cape – where she graduated with a PHD in Political Science.She has a masters in philosophy from the University of Cape Town and a PhD in political science from the University of the Western Cape;
Nasiphi Moyamoya Career
Moya joined the DA in 2011 and was appointed as the party’s national manager of performance development ad management system;
In 2016, she was employed as City of Tshwane group head in the office of the chief whip and in May 2020, she was appointed chief of staff in the office of the mayor of Tshwane; and
In 2021, she left the DA for ActionSA and served as its chief governance director. In January 2023, she was sworn in as a PR councillor and then elected as deputy mayor of the city.

THE new deputy mayor of the City of Tshwane said this new role wasn’t part of her plan.
Dr Nasiphi Moya, originally from Mthatha in the Eastern Cape, said at the age of 15 she moved to Cape Town for her high school and university studies.
She also worked in Cape Town and moved to Gauteng nine years ago and has been a resident of Tshwane for the past eight years.
“Being a deputy mayor was not my dream. My journey in politics started in 2005 as a first-year student at the University of Cape Town,” she said.
Moya said she loves politics and has worked in politics for 14 years. She shared that she has worked for local government and for the DA, City of Tshwane, and is currently a member of ActionSA.

Nasiphi Moyamoya family
Moya grew up in Mpikwana, Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape before moving to Cape Town at the age of 15.
“I was very happy growing up, saying I grew up poor would be an insult to my family’s efforts. My parents did the best they could. I didn’t know of their struggles at the time.”Moya was the fifth girl in the family of six children. “My father and mother hoped I would be a boy and then I was born a girl.
My mom and my aunt went to see an old lady who wanted to know the names of the babies. When my mother told her that I hadn’t been named yet the old lady said ‘whatever gift you are given, you must accept it, Nasiphi’.”
Moya said growing up, she hated combing her hair. “My father took me to town to get my hair cut, but we did not calculate this one and I went to school looking like a boy,” she said.
Moya said she also went to school in an old school uniform.
